Question: Who can work on a Habitat home?
Answer:

Anyone at any skill level can work with our crew and be taught what they need to know. Volunteer!

Question: Do I need tools?
Answer:

No, but if you have your own feel free to bring them.

Question: Can children work on site?
Answer:

If they are 15 or older and have parental permission, or better still, a parent with them on site.

Question: What happens if I am hurt on the job?
Answer:

We maintain a safe, clean site and have full insurance to supplement whatever policies you already have.

Question: What will my gift be used for?
Answer:

To build homes and purchase land. Our events pay for themselves and we are a volunteer organization. We also give 10% of funds not restricted for a particular purpose to help Affiliates in poorer countries build homes. Since 1996 we have funded 2 homes a year in Guatemala which has a well run HFH program.

Question: How can I donate a car?
Answer:

Question: How can I donate used materials for a home?
Answer:

We can only store or use a limited amount and type of materials. Contact Chuck Greenberg at 707-964-0942 to discuss your gift.

Question: How can I insure a contribution will go to your projects?
Answer:

Send the check directly to us rather than through HFH International. Our mailing address is: Habitat for Humanity of the Mendocino Coast, PO Box 770, Fort Bragg, California 95437. Make checks payable to: Habitat Mendocino.

Question: Can I target a gift to a particular homeowner?
Answer:

Not for a tax deduction, but after they move in you may give what you like as you could to anyone else.

Question: How do I apply?
Answer:

We open a round of applications on the web and locally by poster and public notice when we have land to build on. Information will be provided then. We are not now taking applications

Question: How do I qualify?
Answer:

You must make between 50% and 70% of the median for Mendocino County (currently $50,000) adjusted for family size, have inadequate current housing,employed with good credit and be a citizen or legal alien. You and your family must understand and be willing to commit your family to our sweat equity requirements and mission as well as be willing to work beyond your required hours on events and other projects when called to do so.
